Moms Need Me Time Too

Let’s get real, being a mom is not easy. You are constantly monitoring someone else, making sure everyone gets fed and you are being pulled in a million different directions. If you get a chance to sit down, it’s only for a minute and even the bathroom isn’t a safe zone anymore. Nonetheless, moms need “me” time, and even though that may be enough to convince, here are some more reasons why busy moms need to carve out time for themselves.

It’s important for your mental health
Life can get exhausting and if you have to be the responsible mom all the time and don’t have a chance to relax by going on a date night, meeting up with the girls or even just sitting alone on the couch watching a movie, you might go insane. Okay, not really. But, the stress will pile on and having some time to yourself will feel amazing. Just because you’re a mom now doesn’t mean you’re not still a person who needs time to stop and re-energize.

Clear your mind
Trying to keep track of everyone in your family and when soccer practice starts and what time the parent-teacher conference is would be a lot for anyone. Taking time for yourself will help you to clear your mind and focus on what task is next once you’re back to your normal schedule. This is so important because if you’re not feeling your best, you won’t be able to care for your kids to the best of your ability and feel burned out all the time.

Your kids are going to grow up
You had hobbies and interests before you had kids and even though you might have less time for them now, you probably still like doing them. Using some of your “me” time to work on your hobbies will not only be a fun way to spend your time, but it will give you something to focus on other than kids or work. One day, though maybe far off in the future, your kids will move out and having these hobbies will make this transition much easier.
