SUMMARY:Sun Country Dance Theatre Open Auditions
DESCRIPTION:Sun Country Dance Theatre (SCDT)\, founded in August 2008\, will hold open auditions for their 19th Season (2026-2027) on SUNDAY\, AUGUST 16\, 2026. \nA Mandatory Pre-Audition meeting for all dancers and parents/legal guardians of dancers planning to audition for SCDT will be held on Wednesday\, August 12\, 2026\, at 7:00pm\, at Sun Country Sports – West location. The purpose of this meeting will be to outline and review all information and details regarding becoming a performing member of SCDT. \nON-LINE PRE-REGISTRATION FOR THE AUDITIONS IS ALSO REQUIRED FOR ALL DANCERS. All required audition documents and links will be provided to parents at the pre-audition meeting. Audition fee is $25 per dancer – due at the time of registration. The deadline for all completed pre-registration documents and audition fee payment is Friday\, August 14th! \nAudition details for SUNDAY\, AUGUST 16th is as follows: \no SENIOR / APPRENTICE COMPANY – 12:15-2:15 pm\n Advanced Level Ballet – ages 14 & up – Must be on pointe. \no TEEN / YOUTH COMPANY – 2:30-4:30pm\n Intermediate level – Ages 12 & up / Minimum of 5 consecutive years of\nprevious ballet training. Bring pointe shoes if on pointe. \no JUNIOR / Children’s Division – 4:40-6:10pm\n Ages 9 & up / Minimum of 3 consecutive years of previous ballet training. Current Ballet level III/IV/V training required. \no All auditions will be held at Sun Country Sports – West location –\n333 SW 140 Terrace\, Jonesville\, FL. \no Dancers should arrive 20 minutes prior to the audition\no Girls should wear a black leotard\, pink tights\, and pink ballet slippers\, with hair in a slick classical ballet bun (no bangs). Dancers who have at least one year of pointe experience should bring their pointe shoes to the audition. DESCRIPTION:Sun Country Dance Theatre presents their 17th Annual Spring Youth Concert\, featuring the premiere of “Hansel and Gretel”\, an original story ballet choreographed by Artistic Director Judy Benton. This enchanting adaptation of the classic fairy tale follows Hansel and Gretel as they get lost in a mysterious forest\, encounter whimsical characters\, and fall into the clutches of the eccentric Cotton Candy Witch\, who plans to turn them into scrumptous confections. With cleverness and courage\, the siblings outsmart the witch\, tricking her into her own oven and breaking her magical spell. The adventure ends joyfully as they reunite with their mother. This fun\, family-friendly performance is filled with lively choreography\, colorful costumes\, drama\, and plenty of humor. \nThe Concert also includes the premier of several diverse works by both resident and guest choreographers; as well as professional guest artists from The Florida Ballet (Jacksonville). \nFree for children 17 and under.
