Growing up, my mom and dad always did a number of things to ensure my birthday was nothing but spectacular. As a mom of a soon to be 1-year-old, I want to make sure to do some of those same things for my son so he feels loved and special on his big day. Here are six fun ways to make your child feel special on his birthday.

Decorate the entire house with festive birthday decorations

You do not have to spend a lot of money on decorations for your child. Go to your nearest dollar store and pick up some balloons, banners and streamers, and then cover your entire house with decorations.

Post a happy birthday shout-out to your child on social media

Depending on the age of your child, you should keep your post sweet and simple to keep your child from being embarrassed. Posting on social media is a friendly reminder to your family and friends to wish your child a happy birthday.

Send sweet treats to everyone in your child’s class

Talk to your child’s teacher to find out how many students are in his class and what the school’s rules are on bringing in treats. Then (if it is allowed) let your child pick one item he would like to bring to his class on his birthday such as cupcakes, cookies, brownies or another sweet treat.

Take him out to lunch or pack his favorite meal

If his birthday falls on a weekend, take your child out to his favorite restaurant for lunch. If it falls on a school day, surprise your child by cooking his favorite meal and packing it for his birthday lunch.

Invite your closest family members over for dinner and birthday cake

Even if it is a weeknight, your child will really enjoy celebrating his special day with loved ones.

Schedule a birthday photo shoot at your nearest photo studio

For milestone birthdays, find your nearest photo studio and get photos taken of your child. It is a fun way to celebrate and document your child’s big day.

Remember, you do not have to spend lot of money trying to make your child’s birthday special. Just put in some time and effort, and he is sure to appreciate it!
