Celebrate National Lazy Mom Day!

By Amanda Roland

Alright moms, this week we celebrate National Lazy Mom Day on Friday, September 6! This holiday, that you may have never heard of, is celebrated on the first Friday of September every year, and it’s a day for you to be lazy. No dishes, no laundry, no cooking dinner — just laziness and pampering yourself. Here are some ways that you can make sure this Friday is stress-free and filled with nothing but bliss.

Before Lazy Mom Day comes…

Ask your husband, your mom or your dad to be on kid duty. Ask if they can pick them up from school on Friday so that you can take a day off from the after-school traffic and dreaded pick-up lines. If they are willing, ask if they would make your kid’s dinner, too. This will ensure an easy afternoon after work for you to be able to relax, maybe get your nails done or go to the mall to try on that dress that you’ve been eyeing all season.

If you can’t get childcare…

We know that it might be hard to get childcare for a Friday night, or maybe you don’t have family that is local to help you out. If this is the case, do some deep breathing while you are waiting in the pick-up line. Relaxation is just around the corner.

When you get home from work…

Get ready to be lazy. Explain to whoever is in your house that you are taking the rest of the night off for Lazy Mom Day. If the kids need some dinner, put a frozen pizza in the oven, open a bottle of red wine for yourself and call it a day. After dinner, get your glass of wine, draw yourself a warm bath, light your favorite candle, and put on a podcast or grab a book. Use this time to TRULY relax. Tell yourself that it’s okay that someone else is watching your kids, it’s okay that the house is messy, and it’s okay that you are taking time to be lazy.

Now that you’re relaxed…

Put on your favorite pajamas, plop down on the couch and put on your favorite movie — also don’t forget your wine. If you want to, let your husband join you on the couch or even let your little one snuggle up to you — or make it a mommy-only zone. Whatever makes you happy! After all, it is your day, and half the fun of Lazy Mom Day is knowing that you don’t have to share it with anyone.

To end the night…

Fall asleep on the couch, make your way to your bed or stay up for hours. Whatever makes you feel the laziest. And, don’t even think about filling the dishwasher! That can wait until tomorrow. End your day with sweet dreams and a long night’s rest.

Lazy Mom Day is meant to make the overworked mom realize it is okay to be lazy sometimes. At Giggle, we recognize the mommy struggle, and we want to remind everyone that it is encouraged for moms to take the time to treat yourself, recharge and relax. Enjoy National Mommy Day on Friday!
