Celebrate the Class of 2020

While Alachua County has yet to announce how it will proceed regarding high school graduations during COVID-19, Facebook has decided to do something special for graduates across the country with #Graduation2020: Facebook and Instagram Celebrate the Class of 2020.

This virtual commencement ceremony will start on May 15 at 2 p.m. and it will be available on Facebook Watch.

“As students head toward graduation, it’s not the day they might have imagined — no processions, no diploma handoffs, no parties,” according to Facebook. “But graduating is a tremendous achievement, and worth pausing to celebrate even in these circumstances.”

The commencement will include a star studded line up with the commencement address given by Oprah Winfrey. Speakers will include stars like Awkwafina, Jennifer Garner, Lil Nas X, Simone Biles, and more. And, Miley Cyrus will give a special performance of her song, “The Climb,” to recognize all graduates, according to Facebook. Each school from each state will be recognized by name, and pictures of students from across the county will be shown.

Mark your calendars for May 15, and don’t forget to celebrate the class of 2020!
