Dance Alive National Ballet Opens Auditions for Its 59th Season

The Dance Alive National Ballet (DANB) is opening auditions for dancers ages 7 to 18 for its 59th season! Auditions for DANB, “The Nutcracker” and the DANB youth group called Next Generation will take place Saturday, August 24, from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Pofahl Studios, located at 1325 NW 2nd St.

  • Dancers from surrounding counties, studios and gyms are welcome.

DANB Artistic Director Kim Tuttle will be casting roles in the 2024-2025 DANB productions and “The Nutcracker,” according to the DANB press release. The Next Generation youth group directors will select the members for the 2024-2025 company.

How Does Dance Alive Audition Day Work?

Auditioning dancers should arrive 30 minutes before the audition to complete their paperwork and receive their audition number, according to the press release.

Audition Attire

  • Girls: Hair up, black leotard, pink tights and appropriate shoes
  • Boys: White t-shirt, black tights, shorts or bicycle pants and appropriate shoes
  • Acrobats: Appropriate clothing

Audition Times

Auditions for Soldiers, Party Children, Franz’ friends, Mice, Next Generation:

  • Ballet experience required.
  • Ages 7-8: 12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.
  • Ages 9-10: 1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.
  • Ages 11-13: 2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

Auditions for Party Children, Franz’ friends, Clara’s friends, Young Adults, Mice, Angels, Snowflakes, Act II corps, DANB and Next Generation:

  • Ballet experience required. Pointe work required for roles on pointe.
  • Ages 11-14: 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. (2nd year pointe for point roles)
  • Ages 12-17: 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. (3rd year pointe as of August 2024 for point roles)

Tumbler auditions:

  • Must be able to do back handsprings, splits, headstands, front and back walkovers and aerial tricks.
  • Ages 7-18: 5:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Some dancers will be selected for “The Nutcracker” tour beginning November 23 in Alachua. The tour will go to South Carolina, Village, Belle Glade and Ocala, according to the press release. It returns to Alachua County for performances from December 18 through December 22.
