Here is a cohesive list of Event and Closures Updates For Alachua County and beyond that have been adjusted due to COVID-19. This list will be updated daily! Updated 4/14/2020

New Updates:

The University of Florida

All classes will be held online for the remainder of the Spring, Summer A, Summer C and Summer B semesters, and students are encouraged to return home to their families.

UF Sports

“All regular season conference and non-conference competitions are canceled for the remainder of the 2019-20 athletic year,” according the University of Florida. No sporting events will be held during this time.”

All in-person athletic activities suspended through May 31.

“Dan Mullen’s public speaking tour in March & April will not be held at this time.” – Florida Gators website

Past Updates:

2020 Olympics in Tokyo

The new dates for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be from July 23 to August 8, 2021, and the 2020 Paralympic Games will take place from August 24 to September 5, 2021, according to Olympic.org.

Alachua County Public Schools

“Florida Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran has announced that schools will remain closed through May 1 due to COVID-19, which means the new target date for reopening schools is Monday, May 4.” -ACPS Website

Gainesville Country Day School

Will be closed until May 4.

Walmart

Adjusted store hours from 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Also, special shopping hours for elders will be on Tuesdays at 6 a.m. from March 24 through April 28. Walmart stores will only allow five customers per thousand square feet

UF Performing Arts

“In accordance with Alachua County’s Shelter in Place Order, the Phillips Center Box Office is now closed until further notice. Dentists

The Center for Disease Control and The American Dental Association have called for dentists to immediately cease performing elective services until May 8, 2020.

Gym:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis requires all gyms and fitness centers to close within the state.

“Currently, branches are scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 30. All library programs are suspended through April 30.” -Alachua County Library District

Florida Parks:

The Department of Environmental Protection will now close the parks, effective Monday March 23, 2020, per governor DeSantis. Reopen date unknown.

Restaurants/Bars:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis directed all restaurants and food establishments within the state to suspend all dine-in food and beverage consumption for customers. Take-out orders and deliveries are allowed to continue.

Whole Foods:

Whole Foods Market is now open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. People over 60 will be allowed to shop at 7 a.m. The Whole Foods cafe is now closed

Target

Target Store Gainesville will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. To serve all guests, on Wednesdays only they will allow the first hour of shopping for older adults and those with a compromised immune system

Oak Hall School

Starting Monday, March, 16, Oak Hall School will be closed.

All theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort will be closed starting March 16 until the end of the month. Disney Springs is now closed, and Disney Resorts will close on March 20th at 5 p.m.

March Madness is cancelled.

Universal Orlando Resort

Universal Orlando Resort will be closed through the end of the month. Universal CityWalk Orlando is also closed. Universal Hotels will also be closing starting at 5 p.m. on March 20th.

All centers are now closed until further notice.

Best Buy

Shortening store hours, and on March 23, there will be a limited amount of customers allowed into the store at a time.

St.Francis Catholic Academy, Queen of Peace Catholic Academy, St. Patricks Interparish School have will be closed starting March 17-April 15th. (March 16 was a scheduled day off for students)

Chick-fil-A on Archer Road

Starting March 16, the dining room and bathrooms will be closed, but the drive-thru, drive-thru mobile orders and curbside mobile orders will be open and operational.

The Winshape’s 4th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance has also been canceled.

Cedar Key Arts Festival

This festival is canceled.

The Hippodrome Theatre

“We have some sad news. Following the recommendations of the CDC and WHO regarding COVID-19, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel our next Mainstage production, “Native Gardens”.
