What’s Happening
Hosted by Alachua County Public Schools Food & Nutrition Services, the kickoff event is designed to help families access summer meal resources while offering hands-on activities for children.
According to ACPS and promotional materials from the district’s Your Choice Fresh summer meals program, activities will include:
- Interactive learning stations
- A mock farmer’s market
- A planting station for kids
- A photo booth
- Opportunities to meet farm animals
- Informational booths and giveaways
Families will also be able to take home free fresh produce while supplies last.
ACPS also announced that its Your Choice Fresh Summer BreakSpot program will run from June 8 through July 24. According to promotional materials from the district’s Food & Nutrition Services department, free breakfast, lunch and snack options will be available for children and teens ages 18 and under at locations throughout the community. A complete list of meal sites is expected to be released soon.
Why It Matters for Local Families
Summer meal programs help bridge the gap for children who may rely on school meals during the academic year.
The event also gives families an opportunity to learn more about healthy eating, local agriculture and community food resources through interactive experiences.
Children attending the event can participate in educational activities while families connect with local organizations and nutrition resources as summer break begins.
